Cabarete, June 23rd, 2003 - A day before
the contest starts
We're hours from the biggest kiteboarding event ever--about a hundred
of the top male and female kiteboarders are converging in
Cabarete for the second stop of the Professional Kite Riders Association
2003 World
Tour. Whether competing or sidelined by injuries, about 70
top male and 30 top female kiteboarders are here to witness their compadres
fly for
the $36,000 in prize money. For a week starting on 24 June
2003 we will witness stunts never seen before. Many journalists and photographers
are here to capture the jumping and flying feats as the kiteboarders
awaken the waters with their dancing and enliven the sky
with their convoluted
twists and turns. The magic of Cabarete will permeate the
people and the air.
The 2003 World cup event promises to be the most spectacular
water show on the planet--a huge leap from last year. The
first stop in Austria was a tease of things to come. Little
wind necessitated the
show to take place far off shore and video-broadcasted
to the spectators. Now, see them up-close and live and witness
records being set! In the
three months since, the kiteboarders have perfected their
stunts and added more exciting ones. If you thought kiteboarding
was extreme before,
this year's action is clearly more daring and the show
promises cutting-edge stunts. Let's hope for few broken bones as the
kiteboarders perform new
and more difficult tricks such as handle passes and kite
loops. The lyrical long jumps with board-off are no longer
the threshold tricks as some
kiters prefer to go over the top. If anything is not synchronized,
they risk breaking bones.
The Kiteboarding World Cup is Cabarete's time to strut its
stuff with nonstop entertainment and thrills. The day's
excitement continues into the night with dinner on the beach and beats
in the clubs. Get up
close and personal and come see records being set!
